This is me processing, but mostly ranting:
Why am I living in a Game of Thrones episode? Are we the Starks? Where are the dragons? Who is Daenerys?
Every day I wake up to something new with this administration or faux feminist empowerment think pieces policing black women, their bodies or something. Every. Single. Day.
I’m convinced America’s demise will be the result of a Twitter beef or something 45 tweeted to another foreign leader. 100% convinced of this. FOR WHY (YES, FOR WHY) DOES THE PRESIDENT HAVE TIME TO TWEET LIKE HE’S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE RUNNING A COUNTRY????? Why is he tweeting like he has a regular 9-5? Barry Allen, get me out of this alternate timeline ASAP. I did not ask to be a part of Flashpoint!
Most important people have a team or publicist tweeting on their behalf. This man is literally on Twitter beefing with Mexico, Nordstrom, and now Sweden. AND making [expletive] up. I am being gaslighted. I know a NSC advisor resigned over phone calls with Russia, but 45 is telling us the story is made up. HE RESIGNED though. This man would rather vacation in Florida than be President, but we (marginalized communities) have to suffer through that.
White feminism: Every. Single. Day white feminists find some way to use their platform to prove their brand of feminism excludes women of color, especially black women. If it’s not Salem Hayek invalidating Jessica Williams experiences, it’s Hollywood whitewashing an Asian character and Scarlett Johansson explaining the role as feminism over race, or a white feminist writing a think piece about Serena Williams celebrating her body. Instead of white feminists using their platform to support and center marginalized voices, it feels like they are lying in wait for the perfect opportunity to write tone deaf pieces lacking context and conveniently forgetting that Women’s March last month. You know, the one we supported because we understand our race intersects with our womanhood. They are out here ignoring intersectionality like:
Why is it so difficult to understand that white womanhood is not universal? Why are you so threatened? Your experiences don’t apply to all women and Serena Williams celebrating her body is not an attack or betrayal of female empowerment. It’s not difficult to comprehend. Stop contributing to the erasure of women of color. Be intersectional.
Take away from everything that is happening: Listen to black women. Hire critics of color and writers of color at your publication.
